Yoga Sutra Seminar – First Aṅga: Yama
Patañjali’s Yoga Sutras constitute a millenary manual for understanding the essence and practice of yoga. Divided into four chapters (pāda), they offer a path in eight ‘branches’, ‘steps’ (aṅga) to be followed to achieve physical, mental and spiritual balance.
The First Aṅga: Yama The term Yama denotes the ‘abstentions’ or universal ethical principles that govern our relationship with the outside world. In the first aṅga we find five fundamental Yamas:

1 – Ahimsā (do no harm)
Respect and care for all living beings and ourselves*, in thought and word

2 – Satya (truth)
Sincerity and integrity, avoiding deception and half-truths

3 – Asteya (not stealing)
Honesty in not taking or appropriating what does not belong to us

4 – Brahmacarya (moderation)
Conscious management of energies and moderation in sensory pleasures

5 – Aparigraha (non-accumulation: freedom from dependence on possessions, freedom from greed)
Detachment from material possessions and possessive emotions

Seminar Objectives
● To delve into the historical and philosophical significance of each Yama
● To recognise how the Yamas manifest in daily life and in the practice of Yoga
● To share experiences and doubts in a dialogic circle, fostering collective learning

Saturday 17 May from 16.30 to 18.15
Sound bath and Yin Yoga
with Elisa Guerrini and Lorena Vedelago Teacher Anusara Yoga Elements (training 300 hours), Yin Yoga trained with Dhugal Meachem (training 300 hours), Integral Hatha Yoga (training 200 hours), holistic therapist School of the Sacred Feminine with Maria Laura Bonfanti (training ongoing 3rd year)

Yin Yoga is a slow, meditative style – inspired by the Taoist thought of yin and yang – that works on Qi (vital energy) and its energy channels, called meridians

– Deep practice – the postures are held for a long time in optimal tension to stimulate the connective tissue and calm the mind
– Conscious breathing – slow, relaxed breathing helps to ground the body and promote the release of tension

During this special session, traditional Yin Yoga is combined with a vibrational sound massage

– Harmonic bells
– Planetary gongs

These instruments generate sound waves that

– Deeply relax the muscles
– Eliminate accumulations of tension
– Restore the free flow of Qi

The combined benefits of Yin Yoga + Sound
– Increased body awareness – sound amplifies internal perception during asanas
– Dissolving energy blockages – vibrations help dissolve knots and stagnations
– Activation of self-healing capacity – mind, body and spirit are harmonised, promoting overall well-being
– Relaxation and regeneration – a profound experience that regenerates on all levels

Come and experience the synergy of posture, breath and sound – treat yourself to an inner journey of release, balance and rebirth!

Duration: 90-120 minutes – Contribution: € 25
